Moment of truth: SIMcoe City
This “throw-away” emergency brew turned out to be really good. Ordinarily I don’t make strong, hoppy beers but as I mentioned earlier in the brew post, a bag of Simcoe hops was accidentally moistened and decided to quickly throw together a simple 1 gallon beer recipe using all of the remaining hops.
The result is a very bitter but not unpleasant flavor that rivals the big craft beer boys. OK, maybe I exaggerate slightly but I swear I’ve paid over five bucks for a pint of this in many of our finest pubs.
For those of you who have doubts about beers flavored with herbs and fruit, this might be a good 1 gallon beer recipe to get you started making stovetop brews.
This one definitely tastes better very, very cold. I am not a huge fan of overly bitter beer so this barely works for me unless it’s really cold. It packs a pretty good wallop so drink responsibly.
