Moment of Truth: Apple Datewort
Sometimes my crazy concoctions just taste like beer. This is one of them and one I would gladly spend ten bucks a bottle for. Fortunately I don’t need to because I made it myself. Live and learn people. Anyway, this is one fine and not too bitter dark ale. The fruit and herbs are hardly noticeable but I bet this would not be as good without them. I tasted this it after 2 weeks in the bottle and I was a bit disappointed. It was bitter and just too malty. Whenever this happens I just let it sit for another week or two. Sure enough this 1 gallon beer recipe shines with longer bottle conditioning.
If I made it again, I would leave the fruit in the fermenter rather than strain it out. I think it would have more personality. It’s really good and everyone who has tasted it loves it. Give it a try. It was pretty easy to make.
