Blood Orange Beer
One of the nice things about home brewing is making use of fruit that is about to go bad. These lovely blood oranges were about 3 days away from the garbage disposal and I rescued them by making a beer infused with locally foraged white sage and California bay leaves.
I also used this brew as a way to experiment with using liquid malt extract for the first time.
It’s a half-gallon batch or so…
9 cups of water
4 blood oranges (Grated peel from 3 of them and whole rinds from 1)
3 white sage leaves
2 California bay leaves
1/2 cup liquid malt extract
1/2 cup brown sugar
Yeast: Safale 04
Flip a coin and we’ll see what happens. I’m thinking of turning this into beer jelly if it doesn’t work out.
